Origins of the E-PRIX competition<\/strong><\/h2>\n

La Formula E <\/span><\/strong>is now in its fourth year, and is a racing series created by the FIA in which only electrically powered cars compete. The first edition has been at the E-PRIX of Beijing in 2014.<\/p>\n

Alejandro Agag<\/strong> is the founder of the series and current president of Formula E Holdings, promoter of the competition.<\/p>\n

Fanboost<\/strong> is a system that allows fans to interact with the progress of the race by being able to choose their favourite driver. Top rated drivers get an extra power bonus on their car for a limited period.<\/p>\n

Attack Mode<\/strong> is a new mode introduced in the 5th edition that grants extra power to drivers. Details of use such as which section of the track to use most is revealed shortly before the start of the race to avoid the study of particular strategies.<\/p>\n

Most races are held on a single day to minimise the impact on city mobility, but on some occasions during the championship a double race is held on two consecutive days.<\/p>\n

The programme usually includes a Shakedown session, held the day before the race, at a reduced pace, which is useful for the drivers to check the electronic systems and the general reliability of the car, while at the same time the stewards check the track. On race day, two free practice sessions are held in the morning, of 45 and 30 minutes respectively, used by teams and drivers to set up the car and adapt to the track.<\/p>\n

Qualifying Session<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The format of qualification, which usually takes place around noon, requires the drivers to be divided into four groups, drawn by lot before the start. Each group has six minutes to set a timed time. At the end of this first phase, the first six in the ranking take part in the Super Pole, i.e. a flying lap each to determine the first six positions on the grid. To qualify for the race, it is necessary to set a time less than 110% of the fastest in the group session.<\/p>\n

Race<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The race (or E-Prix) is held in the late afternoon, a few hours after the end of qualifying, and involves a standing start. The duration of the race is set at 45 minutes plus one lap, and the maximum power that can be used is 200 kW from season five, with the possibility of using extra power for top-rated drivers with the Fanboost<\/strong>, or by using the so-called Attack Mode<\/strong>; from season six for every minute of the race in Full Course Yellow (FCY)<\/strong> or Safety Car, 1 kWh will be subtracted from the total energy measured from the start of the race neutralisation.<\/p>\n
